This video explores South Pointe's Annual International Festival, where they celebrate over 50 countries and their foods and traditions. This is a time for students to enjoy and understand cultures around the world. Capturing this event was fun because the environment was very relaxed and the students and faculty were there for a great stress-free time. A difficulty in filming this was how loud the environment was and getting it up on the website in a timely manner. In addition, I have not been too exposed to covering an event that did not relate to sports, so I was out of my comfort zone, but realized this was an aspect of journalism that I enjoyed.
Blood Drive
In this video, Stallions reveal why they chose to donate blood and how it is a good deed for those who need blood. This video won third place in videography for 2017 SCSPA Spring Awards. Despite this, I believe the camera work could have been better in regards to more still shots and more interviews. It was difficult finding students who agreed to be filmed while their blood was being drawn because of how stressful the situation they are in might be.
Senior Tennis Player Highlight
Senior Tennis Player Elle Gilleland is highlighted in the above video to recognize and appreciate her dedication and leadership roles on South Pointe's Varsity Tennis Team. She has always been a key player that the team has relied on due to her previous experience on the court. Going in depth of why an athlete decides to play a particular sport is an area of journalism that is being newly explored. It is interesting to understand and realize where their talent came from and why they continue to constantly put time and energy into their sport.
